How It Is Born

I’m Nuria, and Anaqa Design is the result of a very important part of my life.

Interior design has always been a part of me. I enjoy transforming spaces, changing a colour, restoring a piece of furniture and discovering what it can become with a little work, patience and creativity. For a while, it was something I enjoyed in my spare time, never imagining that one day it would become my work.

But getting here wasn’t easy.

At one point in my life, migraines began to limit me enormously. There were days when I could barely lead a normal life, and little by little I lost the desire and enthusiasm for many things. I was physically limited and also emotionally very low.

That was when I started painting and transforming furniture.

At first, it was simply a way to occupy my time and have something to focus on. But little by little, I discovered that working with my hands, seeing how a piece of furniture changed and creating something from scratch helped me switch off from everything else.

And, without realising it, furniture began to help me get my life back.

What began as a way to distract myself eventually became a passion and, later, Anaqa Design.

Today I repair, restore and redesign furniture that needs a new opportunity. I like to preserve what makes each piece special, while also giving it a new look that fits into modern homes. The colour, handles, wallpaper, finish… every choice forms part of the transformation.

As well as my furniture, at Anaqa Design you’ll find the products I use and trust: Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and Satin Paint, Fusion Mineral Paint, waxes, brushes, preparation and finishing products, and papers and transfers from Re·Design with Prima and Mint by Michelle, among others.

I also share tutorials and videos so that you can use these products in your own projects and discover that transforming a piece of furniture is within anyone’s reach with a little enthusiasm and creativity.

Today, Anaqa Design is much more than a job to me. It was born during a difficult time and ended up giving me back something I desperately needed: the desire to create, learn and feel excited again.

Perhaps that’s why I enjoy giving furniture a new opportunity so much. Because I know that something that seems to have reached its end can still become something completely different.
